Economy & mini rental cars: when to choose one

Small hatchbacks such as a Fiat Panda, Hyundai i10 or Renault Clio. Best for cities, narrow old-town streets, coast roads and tight budgets.

Economy & mini cars in our database

What to check before you book a economy & mini

  • Check the boot: most economy cars fit one large suitcase plus a cabin bag, not two large cases.
  • Ask about the gearbox before you pay. Manual is the default and the cheapest almost everywhere in Europe.
  • A small engine is fine in cities and on coast roads, but it works hard on long motorway climbs with a full load.

Where we recommend it

  • Portugal, summer: Algarve summers are busy, parking is scarce and beach-town streets are narrow.
  • Italy, summer: The Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre approaches and Sicilian villages have very narrow roads and little parking.
  • Greece, summer: Hot summers, narrow village roads and tight parking near beaches make a small car with good air conditioning the easiest choice.
